Why are there so many genres of EDM? Just why? That's all I want to know.
I'm not sure what kind of question this is, why are there so many sub genres of any type of music? Because music is always expanding, evolving, and progressing and people want to experiment and try new things. People want to make it and hear it that's why. This is not exclusive to electronic music.
cause some dumbass thinks he's got a new sound by adding something to an existing sound and calls it something else. Then a group of other dumbasses start creating the same sound cause the original dumbass seems to be making money from it. A genre is born even though it is so closely sounding to the other one maybe just a fast or slower beat.....rinse and repeat......
And I'm the dumbass that plays em cause I get paid and chicks dig it. :D
Wasn't a really serious question. I'm just tired of the debate amongst friends and the hautie tautie dj's (locally) saying that they only spin one type of house and not this one. I really just wanna ring some knecks
Grouping things generally is just down to this:

...neurally we like to put like with like. It helps us remember things. It helps us learn. It enables us to compare experiences instantly. It enables us to understand ever-more-complicated things. It helps us communicate. I could spend 5 seconds telling a guitarist to play a 12-bar blues riff. Or I could spend half an hour drawing the notes in on a stave.
I wouldn't worry too much about local DJ's saying they play this type of house but not that type of house. It probably means they know more about the structural elements of house music than you, but unless you're a house buff yourself you shouldn't care.
Specialists tend to know the minutiae of the subject they specialise in, which shouldn't really surprise anyone. But it won't interest everyone either.

And what about the poor guy stuggling to get 100 plays on his soundcloud ?
As weird as it might seem, there ARE some people not doing music for the money.
Narrowmindedness ?
People are trying to make it through, and that's not by doing the exact same thing as another guy that they will succeed.
Creativity is what it's all about, and if it is as easy as changing bpm or just one little thing, why don't we see you schedueled on every club, rocking 1 billion people each night ?
Ideas, and being the first that has them, that's what's important.
Do you really love music or that's just a way to earn money like another to you ? Reading your post, i'm really wondering.
It sounds like you're tired of your friends, not the sub genres.
Play what you like.
Because hard house doesn't sound like deep house. And oldschool rap doesn't sound like new rap.
