I picked up 2 Behringers 215a, there pretty loud, powered & 15". I got them dirt cheap...traded a new iPod 80gb for them.
Not the cheapest option but the KRK RP6's are what I use and are brilliant active monitors just plug each speaker into one output of my soundcard. Sound quality is brilliant.
check out the studio monitor thread - http://www.djtechtools.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1329
heh I use a pair of wooden speakers from 1975 and a tuner from that same time. If I can get the copper wires to sit right they sound more full and beautiful than anything I've ever heard.
Speakers for what? Performing?
Mackie SRM450
If it's for Performance, and you can afford the price jump from the EON's, the JBL PRX series is pretty awesome. They all have CROWN amplifires built into them.
Although, the NEW EON 500 Series looks pretty sweet too. I havn't heard them yet though.
I have the old JBL EONs. Perfect for mobile djing. 50 pounds. 400$ each and it will make any small-medium party bounce.
I myself am running these speakers I picked up at XS Cargo for 40$ (CAN) a pair

Suprisingly they actually work really great. I have 4 hooked up, 2 in series on each channel.
I would like to add a second Amp and pick up 2 sets of these

I have also been looking into the Behringer series of both self powered speakers.
Really is has a lot to do with your plan on what to do with them. In studio only? for gigs? etc...
