    Default Frustrated! Ahhhhg!!!

I DJ a house party once and a while. People always tell me the music was fantastic, and they had a great time. I produce music. A few people hear it and they REALLY like it. But I am frustrated. Many of my friends (I'm a highschool student FYI) are starting to DJ, a few make music. and they're getting gig offers out the rump. They make a more clubby track, post it on there facebook and get 23 likes. Am I the only one who has these feelings? Is it because I am 16? I feel like I am being ignored here.

Don't judge quality by facebook likes.

I would suggest that you make your own tracks, remixes and mixed CDs. Give them away for promotional purposes. Give them promoters, club/bar owners and to those people who usually hire DJs for events. You can also upload them on MP3 mix/tracks hosting sites such as mixclound and soundcloud.

    Good luck!

They probably get more gigs because they know the right people. That's how it works where I live. Like, there's this guy who is around my age, 16, and he headlines all these local dance events, but he honestly can't DJ at all. All he does is slam the crossfader between tracks in VDJ every 1 minute. But no one cares, because unlike other DJs, they don't appreciate mixing skills or track selection or anything.

But he knows the right people, so he gets the gigs.

    *Correction.

The only thing people care about is track selection. That is what separates the good from the awesome these days.

But your right in saying very few people appreciate mixing skill.

It's crazy, but this guy can just play random tracks that no one even knows, it's just because he's some popular dude who can shuffle and has some gear.

don't compare too much, only if it is pushing you don't forget why you started your hobby.

if you have no fun, change something.

don't do it only for the strangers which forget you after 20sec ~ do it for the music and for your personal pleasure then it will please the others to watch and hear you doing it too

    Yep...thats me!

15 odd tracks....and nothing polished or done in my eyes.

Could not keep on. Depressed me and my carreer and DJing took all my time.

    One day...I will produce again!

I am having the time of my life. I just finished a demo album and I've been practicing DJ alot! But that's I think what is frustrating me, I pour my heart and soul in to it, but I get very little in return. But I guess I won't burn out as quick if I am just doing what I want, not for the people.
