Default What do you think about these speakers for a home DJ booth?

    JBL-ES20BK 5.25" bookshelf speaker:

The reviews on amazon sound like they're supposed to be rear components in a surround sound system. Do you think they'd work for a modest home DJ booth?

They make sound therefore they will "work" but if I were you I'd try to get ahold of some decent used studio monitors.

    dj monitors =/= studio monitors

    Studio monitors are flat,
DJ monitors (like KRKs) are more heavy on the lower end of the spectrum (bass)

OT: KRK monitors are a good shout, theyre not cheap though.

    KRKs are studio monitors...

They aren't the truest studio monitors but they are still studio monitors, I'm not sure if I know of any speakers branded as dj monitors except maybe the new pioneers (which are marketed for both).

How much do you want to spend? They are fine if they suit your budget. The problem with the KRK's is that they are twice the price. Thats a big different on a budget.

Also just a friendly reminder to check craigslist regularly and often. I decided I wanted a second pair of monitors on Sunday and came home with these KRK RP8s with stands for $200 a couple hours later. And if I didn't get those there were a pair of RP5s I could have gotten for $130. There are always deals if you look and lots of KRKs. Come to think of it that's about what I paid for my first pair of RP8s on craigslist too.

And would recommend them to anybody looking for studio monitors or speakers for a home DJ in general. I have them in 5 inches, but I plan on getting a sub because I think it would compliment them well. I feel like if I got KRK Rokit 8s I wouldn't need a sub though!

Trust me it is like night and day with the sub, even the RP10-3s really need a sub. I'm trying to find a deal one a second 10s so I have a sub for my studio and DJ area since using the 8s without one is lacking.
