Default To the djs in San Diego

Hey guys i have been having a hard time trying to get my foot in the door here in San Diego as far as playing at any bars and clubs. If anyone has any advice on venues that are good places to start, or advice in general, i would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

go across the border! TJ has some crazy dive bars and you only have to be 18 to drink.

Yo bro, just check'd out yr website, sick shit - we should hang. My girl & I recently packed up to move to Sacramento but last second got a place in Murrieta (right by SD) ill be moving down early this up coming month. Had to move back to SoCal.. well a couple of my boys down in Anaheim Hills own a promotion company, they promote/direct for mostly house/electro clubs, but I spin whatever I like (mostly electronic remixes & my own tracks/mixes) so as long as your cool & can mix, any genra & style in the dance class should be chill. Well ay even if you spin hip-hop, top40 or whateve It'd still be dope just to kick it with a fellow DJTT homie, gotta dip but hit me up whenev http://www.myspace.com/d4nc3

@JesC: Haha, i went over to tj about 2 years back. Isn't it supposedly pretty dangerous nowadays?

@LiveFastStephen: Thats awesome man! Ive been looking for places to play electronic music just cuz the places ive played wanted hip-hop top 40 stuff. You can find my mixes here http://skybotmedia.com/?page_id=6 if you haven't already run into them. Got any mixes of yours online i can check out?

TJ sounds pretty extreme for me. Maybe JesC wants less competition on the West Coast?

Try hitting up local bars to get a quick gig, and some experience, to get into the downtown scene you have to be well known, even if just for partying there. Go down make friends with the promotors and DJ's etc.
    See ya around.

    Default Sd & tj

The days of tj clubs like iguanas are long gone. they chek idz at the border now, so no more "U S" and go. Does make you wonder what happened to all those clubs on AV Revolucion.

Have you tried just showing up before the spots are open, playing 4 or 5 tunes and leaving a cd. befriending the bar-tenders always helps.

Thanks for the advice guys. Ive been looking through smaller bars to get some momentum.

@drimachus: how do you play music for them before the spots open? They let you do that?

probably not downtown or PB. they probly got too many already.
but all your neighborhood spots, yea. if it's a bar that has djs(maybe like Kensington club), they'll be open at like 5 or whatever, usually djs won't start until 8 right. So go early and just see what's doin. If it's a spot that don't open til 8(Dynamite or Whistle Stop), the bartenders will be there at like 6:30 cleaning up and getting ready.
Don't quote me on these times, ain't been there in a while.
