Default question about arcade overlays v.3

so i remember ean mentioning in one of the videos that the new arcade overlays were designed to be able to just throw on over an existing overlay from a previous arcade mod. if this is the case, would it not be a good idea to use this overlay if i wanted to do the arcade mod right now. since i dont have an existing overlay on my vci, would this new overlay not fit correctly? does djtt plan on releasing any v.3 arcade overlays that fit like the old ones did, ie designed to sit under the buttons?

I would imagine that it fits better on a VCI with no overlay. I can't imagine having a unit with 2 overlays on it ugh...And honestly just for people who can't get their old overlays off, its really not that hard, just use some muscle.

    bump.

any word on this? can anyone confirm if the new overlay sits over the arcade buttons, as opposed to under the bezzel of the button, as the original arcade overlays did?

i guess what i am essentially asking is, are the holes in the overlays 23.5mm in diameter or 27mm in diameter

if the arcade overlay sits over the arcade buttons, then they should be 27mm in diameter, if they sit under the bezzel of the button, then they should be about 23.5mm in diameter.

the dimensions of the buttons can be found here

    much appreciated...

It sits over de buttons and not under.
I got mine a few days back. fits perfectly tho.
To bad i couldn't trace the holes for the buttons cut-outs.

    thanks for the reply...

thats exactly why i wanted to know actually, so i could trace the overlay and cut the holes for the buttons myself.

seems like it would look a little less clean if they sit over the buttons as opposed to "under" them....

can anyone comment on this? does it look ok sitting over the top of the buttons?

There is a little bit of space between the buttons and the overlay.
Not much tho maybe 0.5 to 1 mm. in my case i can see a bit of metal trough the holes.
It would have looked nicer if the overlay would sit under the buttons but luckily i have a black vci anyway so i'll be fine.

All in all... there is a good chance you will see something trough those holes. i think you'll just have to accept that. You could always spray paint the plate before putting on the overlay i can't imagine that you'll ever notice the 1mm spacing.

the overlay itself is rad so i'd go for it!
(I put a 1 euro coin in the holes and traced it, gave me the perfect holes...)
