Making Shorter Mixes
Hi Everyone,
Can anyone give me advice as to what effects will work well in order to make shorter mixes of songs.
I like playing club style/Dance floor hits but find that the songs are to long for the crowd.
In other words. Using a 3 minute song instead of a 5 to 6 minute song.
BUT the problem then is that i have vocals on both tracks, mostly clashing.
Any advice for that will be greatly appreciated.
Regards

Try jumping to the outros of long songs, ei, after a chorus, hit the cue set at the beginning of the outro or part with no vocals and mix from there. As to effects, i dont know, filter? Or maybe a freeze? Are you in traktor?

Yes in traktor scratch 1.23
Still learning, so the jump is new to me. Any advice on that???

beatjump is an easy solution imo, 32 beat skips or setting cues save alot of downtime.
may take a min to get used to, but playing around with jumping and looping is one of the greatest things in traktor.

You can :
*just beatjump back and forth (8/16/32 beats) but if your tracks don't have a constant tempo and/or your beatgrids are non-existant/off the mark, jumping can get ugly. So tighten them grids nao!1
*Set hotcues at various points of the track and map the hotcues to your keyboard/controller/whatever => skip (long) parts of the track you don't want, make a live edit rearranging phrases in whatever order you like - don't go overboard with it, keep some structure.

Check out Ean's video on 5 basic DJ transitions. Get these down and you'll be well on your way to shortening up songs and putting together a more efficient and exciting set.
