Ableton IS for you. For mash-ups/remixes there is nothing else that comes close.

Yeah man... Learn ableton... It's all basically the same once you get one down, just different layouts but all are gonna be based on creating music and emulating hardware (basically), right?
When we all make music, the God Spirit travels out of our bodies and we become one with each other. And for just a second, there is no war, greed, or hate in the world, just music, the celebration of life. (and usually a party, which is good too!)
i just use traktor unless it's something tricky with sketchy bpm, then it has to be ableton.
mixmeister...enough said
And red is a faster color then blue... lol
the summing algorithm of all DAWs is more or less the same, the plugins and how you use them is what sounds different
ableton really is the shit for mixing and mashing. By saying "it's not for me" you're really saying "ableton intimidates me"...
Just load up a bunch of loops in the clips, switch back and forth between them, and watch some YouTube videos. It's really not hard, just a little intimidating
I think any DAW will work. Ableton would probably be the best because of the Session view, where you could mix and match what would sound the best.
ableton and mixmiester are two programs that really has the workflow to do mashups.. though for me... i found that trying it jsut with decks or traktor first helps the whole process in the long run!
