Custom Monome.... I could use some help.
Alright so, i have a question for you engineering folk. I am very good at technology, but i need some of your help. I want to build a custom monome, form these parts:

I would also use LEDs.... could it be done?

yes it can be done. but with 1 umc32 you can only make a 16 buttons matrix if you want leds.. but you can easily buy two UMCs and connect them. check out http://halemicro.com/Products/Products.html .
their forum is really good too, kenny the owner helps a lot..

I have an Arduinome 256 build going on (I know HUGE)
get on the monome.org boards and talk to the user BIBO. he makes monome logic board clones (ie: all in one logic boards) and 8x8 button pads that only require board to logic board connection with 2 ribbon cables. I suck at soldering and have testdriven these boards to be INDESTRUCTABLE.
there is also a guy there who creates faceplates out of alluminium for cheap. I got a faceplate for the 256 and a riser out of acrylic plastic for 80 bucks.
