Default Linguistic question for the Brits...

Where did the descriptor "pants" come from and how, exactly is it used? Is it one of those rhyming things? It seems to describe something "not so good", was it meant to replace shite? Just curious about it origins really.

I always kind of figured that's what it meant.

Thanks for that. Yeah, it's what I thought. Actually I like the possibility of the German origin "Toten hossen"=dead pants, that's funny.

You can say "Thats pants" cus something is rubbish.
Or you can "Oh pants" instead of "of shit"

Dunno where it comes from exactly.

    Thanks Karlos,

That clears it up even more. Has this been a slang term for very long? I don't recall hearing very much in the not so recent past.

It's been going on for as long as I can remember. We will twist any word from it's original meaning, innit? Wicked!

You can also use the word 'gash'. As in - 'that is gash'

Oh and SirReal - if we are talking about language:

Your sig 'Walking a fine line between stupidity and genious' is veering towards the stoopid-fresh at the moment. 'Genious' is spelt 'genius', no matter which side of the pond you are from!

    Yours,
