Default Got some details about VMS4

I've been emailing with one of the AA techs and have the following info. I've not seen it anywhere else, hopefully it's not redundant. It's def not posted on the VMS4 websites.

    Some dimensions:

    60 mm Pitch fader

    55 mm Channel faders

    55 mm crossfader

    4” jog wheel

Pitch faders have 1024 "steps" in each direction. That's 2048 steps across 12 percentage points in a +/- 6% pitch scale.

I'm not sure what that works out to in final pitch resolution, but it seems as though there's 170 midi "steps" on the fader for each 1% change in pitch. I think this works out to about 0.00588% change for each "step"...

I'd love if someone could check my math.

Also, does anyone know the specs of the VCI-100/300 well enough to know how well this stacks up?

    Thanks!

Thanks. I think this means that this has much better pitch resolution than any of the other all-in-ones out there, but I'm not sure about the VCI-300's resolution.

Are you sure that the pitch faders have 1024 steps in each direction? I think the pitch faders have a total of 1024 steps. This sounds more logically, because most midi controllers use 10 bit faders. 2^10 = 1024 increments. I don't say it's not possible, because an 11 bit pitch fader gives you 2^11 = 2048 steps.

The Vestax VCI-100 uses 10 bit pitch faders, so 1024 increments.
The Vestax VCI-300 uses 14 bit pitch faders, so 16384 increments.

    Correct me if I'm wrong...

    Yep, dennis is right too.
11 bit is new for such controllers, but if tech support says it..

I just wonder: 60 mm faders means every 1% pitch difference is 5mm movement. So 0,5mm for each 0,1% (which isn't uncommon). But is it possible to move a pitch fader so precisely?

Well the pitch fader will depend on the Range the software is set to IE
4.6,15, or 100%. But there is 1024 steps in each direction.

Sounds like I got some bad info from AA then. 1024 steps being 10bit jives with the specs already published.

That sucks really bad that it's only got the length and resolution of a VCI-100...

Why oh why can't one of these controllers come out with CDJ pitch faders!?!?!

Any chance someone can share with me the pitch fader length on the VCI-100 and 300? I've had both in the past, hated the 100, did OK with the 300.

Could they have two midi notes per fader, one for up and one for down? This would give them 1024 each way for 10 bit. Like the VCI-100 1.3 fader knob (although it is 7 bit).

The Otus Raw seems to have CDJish pitch faders, if they'd ever friggin release it.

Thanks. I kinda thought someone was going to bring those up. I'm hoping for something at a more reasonable price point.

Right now I'm trying to get a tech from EKS to state the pitch resolution on the XP5 units, as they use a 100MM alps fader and that's the length that I think is optimal.

I'm pretty depressed that the VMS4 isn't going to work out for me afterall.
