Default The Audio 2 DJ Card / Only for DJ?

Hi! Short but pretty important question i have.

The Audio 2 DJ really got me hooked when looking it up at NI's site. I was informed here on the forum that it would be a great card for controllerism.

A quick question though, is it only for DJing or can i use it for musical production? That is, pure editing in lets say Ableton/Cubase/Logic etc?

What happens when it comes to recording external instruments such as MIDI Keyboards/Voice/Drumsets?

    Best regards, Joel!

Sure you can use it for production. I use mine as my main soundcard for everything.
As for recording, you can record Midi without any audio interface, since midi isn't really sending any audio.
Now for recording live instruments and vocals, this can't be done with the Audio 2 dj, since it has no inputs. But if you don't plan on doing any live recording it's a great deal.

Well the only thing im supposed to record is melodies etc with my MIDI keyboard. And i want to get latency as low as possible..

The recording part in productions isnt my strong side, as you may notice!

Your midi keyboard only controls whats in your PC.

So you can punch out your melody with the midi keyboard and record internally.

Now if you have an external synth.....and want to record that.....it would not work.

But controlling VST's and recording what it does....is internal.

    Thank you for that.

Now, regarding a MIDI keyboard. If the latency is high when i use a MIDI keyboard, then it is because of my PC? The internal soundcard that is?

So if i would get myself the AUDIO 2, it will not make any differenc when i play the MIDI that has high latency? Or does it work instead of the inbuilt soundcard, lowering the latency?

I guess that would be logical, or am i getting this the wrong way?

There could be several factors to why you're getting high latency.
Start off by running this program
    http://www.thesycon.de/deu/latency_check.shtml
    IT'S FREE.
Chances are a better sound card will improve latency, but if the PC can't handle all of the processing, then even a better soundcard will not help.

I will check out the program,

I do not think the computer is the problem. Its a new MacBook Pro with good specs, the only thing i know that could be improved is the soundcard, so i bet its that.

But lets say i need a better card, would the Audio 2 do the trick?

Edit: The program was for Windows. I am on Snow Leopard.

The Audio 2 should do the trick then. I'm betting you could get some decent latency with your current soundcard if you just tweaked the settings a little bit.

Yeah i guess so, altough i have zero idea how to do that. Partly im all new on MAC and secondly, i have a feeling the card will do the trick.

I do think i will invest in this and for the notice, it wasnt expensive either! ;d

    Thanks for all the help!
