    Default First Gig!!!

    Howdy Folks,

I've got my first gig in a week's time for 500 people in a warehouse!

I'm hiring out lights and sound for the event.

My setup is a VCI-100se and DDM-4000 (external mixing)

Does anyone have any helpful tips or hints?
I've heard the DDM has some distortion problems when used on a big system.
    Will I have any problems?

Also, what backup tools should I have in place if my setup fails?

500 people is a fairly large amount of people to play for a first gig so I want everything to go fine!

    Thanks d00ds!

if they arent already, map traktor to ur computer keys. at least enough for the basic functions (pause/play, cue, etc.)

aside from that al i can say is stay calm and have FUN! remember the crowd seeing the dj go crazy can really get the going sometimes

HAVE A VARIETY OF SONG TYPES, BACKUPS, ETC. have them well organized too so you know where to find each type.

The traktor functions are already premapped to computer keys right?

I guess I just need to learn them!

    Cheers for the advice

My advice is be prepared to change the order of your playlist to fit the mood of the crowd. And also, not everyone will dance the whole night. It can be a little demotivating when you see people at the back talking and not dancing, but you can't expect a full night of dancing from everyone.

Also, take plenty of spare cords/adaptors/usb cables and an iPod for the worst case scenario

+ 1 to what solus and djfletch said

Also, i would recommend burning a few of your mixes (if any) onto cds just in case something batshitcrazy happens so u can keep the music going.

... drinks which you shouldn't be drinking anyway to remain at 100% (yeah, right). Pass them over to the person you have selected as your hot roadie. This will make your job easier with him/her once your set is over.

    Wait, what ?

    Just stay chill

Bring extra cables, bring a backup cd player or ipod in case your computer decides to freak the fuck out and you need 15 minutes to get things re-sorted. Make sure you have all appropriate connectors for said cables so that everything fits together in an emergency (RCA -> 1/4"; 1/4" -> XLR; etc.)

Don't overthink your sets cause they will change. Are you trading off with another DJ?
