    Hows it going?

I think the real difference is that a midi mapping allows you to map to an external midi controller whereas the keyboard mapping just maps to the keyboard.

    What does this mean?

The midi mapping requires an external input/output. Midi controllers enable the use of knobs and encoders and buttons and jog wheels and all sorts of fun tools. It allows the control to be more "real".

I think the idea is like anything else, you got to transfer what you have inside your brain to the external environment with as little information lost and with as little effort as possible.

I'd say the keyboard is limiting, but people dj with just a mouse. Its all about what you need to help express yourself. If you can get by on a solid keyboard mapping more power to you.

The big difference I would say is options.

if you can't get your keyboard to do exactly what you want to do, then you go to a midi mapping

I hope something of this was helpful.

    Take it easy

ok maybe i was a little vague.

ok so im using a gamepad and xpadder so im mapping via keyboard.

now whats the point of midi mapping?

from what i understand (i think) a usb is an HID then some poeple take the time to convert that to MIDI.... what is the point of this? why dont u just map it through keyboard?

You can't really use analog controls(faders, knobs) with a keyboard mapping. So if the gamepad you're using has thumbsticks that you were thinking of replacing with faders, then you have to convert to midi. If not, keyboard mapping will be just fine.

You can map the thumb sticks to keys, but you loose the fine control(everything in between full on and off. So instead of having a multitude of values, you just have on and off.
