If the NI Audio2 DJ soundcard automatically reads the impedence of the 2 outputs, is there any advantage/disadvantage to dedicating one output to headphone and the other to PA?

Nope both outputs are the same and thus it doesnt matter which one your using for either application
gracias
just a quick question regarding the audio2. if i were to get an apc40 and an audio 2 soundcard would that mean i couldnt actually record loops/tracks? Are there any added benefits for getting the audio4 instead of audio2?
what do you mean "record tracks"?..
in Traktor? it records to your hard drive..
sorry if that doesnt answer

audio4 has timecode control in Traktor (turntables/cdjs) but has the same outputs as the Audio2

well id be using it with an APC40 and ableton (it says its compatible- which i assume form a soundcard??). im just really confused about the differences between the audio2 and 4. If i dont need timecode why would i need audio4?
You record internally through the software.
if your planning on recording any EXTERNAL sources, such as a synth, drum machine, guitar, vocals or anything like that... i dont think you can record anything with the audio 2 as they are both OUTPUTS... whereas the audio 4/8 has both inputs and outputs and the audio 8 also has a mic/XLR input... however... if ur just recording internally through the software... audio 2 should do just fine...
