Default alot of help needed guys. MAYA 44 soundcard. traktor pro. behringer ddm4000 set up

Okay guys, my equiptment is, traktor kontrol X1, behringer ddm4000, macbook, maya 44 usb soundcard.

I cant figure out how to set up the soundcard.

The ddm 4000 is controlling midi, not just being used as a mixer.

    ive developed a problem

at first, before i bought a midi cable, i had the mixer mixing the tracks just through the sound card. everything worked fine. But now, as its set up as a controller, it seems to have knocked the soundcard all over the place.

I'm using a maya 44 USB soundcard. The outputs are 4321. I have 2 RCA's leading from 3,4. and 2,1. these RCA's run into Channel A & Channel B on my mixer. This is how i had it set up before midi and it worked.

However, now I cannot do this, the preferences on output routing only allow me to chose maya 44, output 2 and ouput 3 even though there are 4? confusing for me who is a complete noob at technology.

I've thrown a vid together to explain, hopefully someone can help me? cheers

Sometimes Traktor doesn't get the names of the soundcard outs correct. It actually looks like you had four outs. But first off:
It looks like you kept your routing option as Internal for internal mixing, meaning that your master output is going into one channel and your monitor output is going into the other. If you wanted it so that Deck A is going out through one stereo out, and Deck B is going out through another, then you should change that to external. In either case, you're going to have to go under the MIDI options in the DDM4000 and unmute the channel strips you're going to use for audio.

As for your soundcard and Traktor's weird way of naming things, if that's the only soundcard you're using then it looks like you actually have 4 outs. The main thing you should be looking at are the numbers at the side which start from 0. And it looks like you have 0, 1, 2, 3 which is four outputs.

As for the way you want to mix, you may have to clear that up a bit as there are 2 options you can take both of which need modifications of both hardware and software. I can help with that as well, just need to know if which route you want to take.

Default Thanks for the speedy reply.

okay, none of the channels were muted on the ddm so i looked into the external routing page on the output settings.

now where do i go from here?

yeah all i want to do is mix from the ddm really only using channels 1 & 2. everything else is being used on the X1, so what do i need to do?

    thanks again.

Ok, so what you want to do now, assuming you have your maya44 selected as the soundcard under Audio Settings, is set your Output Routing as external mixing now giving you the option of setting which deck will be using which part of your soundcard.

Where you see Deck A, in the 2 drop-down menus, select the first two soundcard options for your left and right channels. (Again they are listed in ascending order of number starting from 0, so left should be 0 and right should be 1)

Then do the same for Deck B. Left being 2, and right being 3. (These are the ones you previously thought to be your only options as shown in the video, the ones that apparently have Maya in the soundcard name)

At that point all monitoring will be done on the mixer and you should be good to go. If this doesn't work, then are settings that need to be changed in the Audio Midi Setup on your computer.

WARNING: Only proceed with the below-mentioned only if the above-mentioned did not work successfully.

To do this just use your search function on your MacBook, look up Audio Midi and it should be associated with an icon of a keyboard. Then under Audio Devices, select the soundcard you wish to configure in the Default Output drop-down menu. Then click on Configure Speakers where another window should pop out. Click on Multichannel, then it should give you another drop-down menu immediately to the right of the button. Select Quadraphonic, enabling your soundcard to be seen with 4 channels. The top row should be selected as 1 and 2 (read from from left to right) and the bottom row should be selected as 3 and 4 (also from left to right) then apply the new settings for your soundcard and repeat the steps at the steps in the beginning.

NOTE: Audio Midi Setup is a crucial tool when using soundcards and there are some great videos out there on how to use it to it's maximum potential.

    Hope this helps.

yeah i had this done before but it wasnt working! but i did it again and typical, works haha!

Now, only other thing is, the midi settings are selected for channels 1 & 2, sounds coming through headphones and master perfectly, BUT, the vertical faders arent changing the sound. its only the gain high mid & low fader knobs that are fading the mix. This isn't good cause now i can't monitor the mix before changing, it just comes out when i turn it up in my headphones!!

any ideas? :/ sorry im useless!

Thanks for your help on with the soundcard tho man!

    Hey.

Under the audio setup tab in traktor, there should be a drop down that selects the audio driver.
If it's set to MME/WDM or something, then you should get something like two outputs, and two digital outputs.
Try setting it to ASIO - Maya44, and then checking back under the output router tab.
    Fixing stuff that isn't broken.

This is because the volume faders on the DDM4000 are still considered MIDI instead of regular volume faders. And because you are mixing on an external setting, the controls for the volume faders in the software disappear, therefore losing those controls.

A fix for this would be to completely remove MIDI functionality on those channel strips rendering them as regular channel strips. The only thing that happens now is that you are no longer controlling EQ's and kills in the program, instead they are being done directly on the mixer. I would also recommend removing MIDI settings on the crossfader as the crossfader functionality disappears as well on an external mixing setting.

Also if you prefer solely monitoring the song not playing, for cueing purposes, I recommend turning the Mix knob on your mixer completely to the left.

    Hopefully this does it!
