I once knew a tiny tiny bar that had a funktion 1 sound system. I'm talking about 20 capacity tops. The only way they managed to fit it all in was by putting cushions on top of everything and pretending they were seats.

Thing is they went bust after about a month of being open. Funktion one sound system in a tiny room in a basement under a sushi bar? They didn't even advertise the place at all... God knows how they expected to pay for it all.

Reminds me of that bit in the matrix reloaded where the woman has a spontaneous orgasm from specially programmed cake... I want to open a bar like that

I'm not a fan of funktion 1 systems, they are always over kill for the size of the room to allow headroom, but sound engineers with "check out my balls" syndrome whack them up and everyone goes home with hearing damage. the engineers excuse being, its a funktion 1 man, it can take it, they're a clean sound not digital.

I've stopped playing a certain venue cause their engineer kept turning everything up to the max, i'd turn down what i was sending him, he'd whack it up, i'd trim it back again, he'd turn it up. this was at the start of the night, a dozen or so people in and they're complaining its too loud and they're right. so my master fader is below half way and i can hear bit crushing coming into effect as i'm peaking at -36dB, so i turn it back up to 0dB and watch the fucker scramble to pull the faders back. then walked up to him and explained why my levels jumped up so high. his response was "its a dj set, if i set my levels now i can just set and forget for the night, if you pull that shit again i'll have you fired" my response was less than diplomatic and at the end of the night i mentioned to the manger that i would be back until they got a real sound engineer. its idiots like him that cause laws to be passed that make live music almost impossible.

oh and 192kbps @44.1 does me nicely as most power amps thd spec would negate any increase in quality, like the horn loaded designer said, weakest link n all

    wow there's a vote for 128, wasn't expecting that.

And thanks for the input quiggers! Funny, most people usually complain about it the other way round, but then again that's often because they've pushed it too far into the red anyway.

    I voted ... 256kbps ... for an iPod.
At least 320's all the way for parties .. That being said i HAVE used 192's on some occasions. Depending on the PA setup they can sound perfectly fine, and as mentioned most punters probably dont give half of two shits about the quality.
