Default Walking around town with my set's on cd's...not successful...

:eek:i've recently moved to a new area and i'm trying to dj for clubs and bars. I'm not any special dj and I don't have anything ridiculous...i just play electrohouse and EDM but i am having THE hardest time just getting managers and owners to even listen to me? Does anyone else have these kind of problems? and advice?

Also, i'm thinking about making some business cards for myself...great idea?

In my area most club and bars have set dj's and stick them untill they mess up. my guess is the customers like there mix's and what the bring to the club and the owner sees that and will just vito a man coming in the door..

    Just keep trying man!!!

play top 40 and hip hop if you live near a college town. Hit up bars in your area, dont go to the owner, hit up the bartender 1st. Get to know what clubs/bars play on what nights and dont be stranger from places that you want to play. Also Im not saying for you to stop playing electro, just add some more notches to your belt and you will bump into other like minded djs and promoters/

I'm about to get business cards printed. You can get them for like a penny each with decent artwork, so…why not?

not mandatory but getting your cds printed (inkjet cds) instead of handwritten helps a lot since your cd will stand out from the rest and you will have better chances for it to be heard.

other than that follow JesC's advice, and don't give up!

latch on to some of the DJs in the area, and you may find yourself filling in for one of them.

sharpen your knife.... when he turns away from you....

just kidding.. but seriously, do some homework and get the lay of the land.

do a search and read through some of the threads and main page blog post on the topic.. there's been some good discussion on the topic over the years - its a fairly common topic of discussion. theres plenty of self promotion info on these forums!
