OT: What's funny about the "Rick Roll"

A number of threads have recently mentioned or used the rick roll?

I never got it. Is that song so terrible? He has pretty amazing voice, I remember when that song first came out and being surprised that a voice like that came out of his mouth.
I know it's an "internet" thing. But it is SOOOO over (just like "fail")

Generally it's annoying and immature. I'm sure some 16 year olds are going to load this thread up with "rick rolls", but whatever. I guess it's better then the "I just got an S4!!!!" threads.

its the idea that your tempting someone to see what they want, then when they look at it, its something else

I have to admit that until yesterday I'd never even heard of a 'Rick Roll', and like 'face melting' and 'epic' et al its says - NOTHING. He did have a voice, but as with all SW&A, and the likes of Milli Vanilli, Sigue Sigue Sputnick, Wham, FGTH, NKoTB, etc etc etc etc etc - he was packaged, prepped and PR'd for mass consumerism. I wonder who's laughing all the way to the bank today - Rick or the (record company) execs? HE was rolled.
