Default PA Speakers on a tiny budget

My friends have a house that has parties on a semi-regular basis and our old speakers just died. The amp is still good but I'm not sure what the specs are, I'll check soon. Being college kids, we are on a tiny budget. Is there any way we could get speakers for a small dance party (it's a mid sized living room - probably 50-100 people) for under $200 (maybe $250 tops)?

Last week it was running off a crappy shelf system.

for under 200? your prob sol.

we had some peavys at my frat house back at school. so if you already got a decent amp you might be able to walk away with some dope 15' monitors for around 300.

go to guitar center. or look on craigslist.

For anyone who was wondering, yes that is indeed a leaked image of the new Traktor, complete with 4 wheel drive and shipping with a free pair of foot pedals.

In that price range...check out craigslist or local ebay auctions. Any "name brand" full range top with a 12" or 15" woofer will do the job.

I recommend that you prefer the 12" loaded top...and add a sub at some point in the future. You will lose 1-2dB of output, probably gain 5-ish Hz of low end extension, and have a speaker than is smaller, lighter, and easier to place in the room or hang from the ceiling.
