That way you'd then have to play out the length of the original loop after looping out.

not if you duplicate the deck or use a sample deck

Not exactly the same but Richie does something similar in this video approaching the drop at 1:09. Check it out! And please tell me how he does it.

Sounds like as he was bringing down the loop, he had a delay on and at the last bit he just used the Transpose Stretch

+1 for using beatmasher rather than loop. You can exit out of the beatmasher to wherever the song has got to rather than being stuck in a loop.

I personally for buildups use a beatmasher, a reverb and a delay, plus a filter. however now im considering using a transpose stretch as well...

Doesn't the Daft Funk vst do a similar thing?

Yeah, beatmash, transpose (if you're into that sort of thing) then filter it. I've got two parameters of the beatmasher set to take over my jogs when I hit a button. Gives really awesome sounds/controls

I think this is possibly the solution. Sounds ver very similar to the video. From the Traktor bible website:

    Usage Example of Traktor Effects

    The "Richie Hawtin Effect":
    http://www.traktorbible.com/en/fx_usecases.aspx

And use more wet/dry-Rate than mentioned. I have the effect saved so next time Delay T3 FX is selected it is ready to go.

Wish there were more sites with literal examples like the above.

The problem I've had trying to do this with Beatmasher is that it has the triplets setting... For me, that makes it hard to cleanly do the loop crush and stay in time.

    Is there something I'm missing?
