Default Trainspotting, tracklists, and digging through the crates.

Some people demand tracklists, and won't even listen to a mix if there isn't one. Some people back in the day would hang over booths non stop trainspotting other peoples records. Some DJ's make a lifestyle of finding those rare gems that no one else has, and breaking new sounds.
Both sides have their arguments on whether or not DJ's should share the info on their tunes or not. What are your opinions?

    this.

and adding the artist name means now some google, Soundclod, mixcloud or what have you search will show your thing, drawing more attention.

hell 5 people added my page just becase i posted a status linking my fanpage to 'dubstep' 'flux pavillion' 'shiftee' 'bassnectar' and some other names because i said my upcoming mix had their tracks in them

i usually just check to see if there is one, maybe scan it to see if i recognize any of the artists.

the main thing is that they take the time to post one and are not afraid to post one.

when djs don't post tracklists it indicates two things.

    a) the dj is fucking lazy.

    or

    b) the dj is a paranoid delusional type who thinks his style is worth biting.

those are two major red flags that the mix is probably a waste of time.

Great list and reminded me to redigitize OMD's Crush at 320k. I wanted to see The Cult's "She sell's Sanctuary" in there but... Where are you playing these sets? Next time I'm in L.A. I'll be sure to drop in.

    good topic...

in my opinion, posting tracklistings and letting others know what tracks you play is a sign of confidence. sure they might be able to get the track, but will they have the talent to play it at the right time? will it fit with all their other tracks?

i also think giving away the track is a sign of your enjoyment of the music, and wanting to share it with others. if some dj wants your tune, and uses it in one of their sets, then that is improving their set, and improving the experience for the listener. for the djing and dance music culture that is an improvement.

back in the late 90s, early 2000s when the biggest djs were the only ones that had the awesome tunes, joe average would have been exposed to far less high quality dance music. the local punter just didn't have the amazing tunes that the super star djs did.

nowadays with the digital revolution, i can pop on soundcloud, ask luke fair what was the name of one of the killer tracks he had on his latest mix, and play it the same night. i get a better set, the punter gets better music, and luke fair has a higher chance of being booked to play in little ol' new zealand because there are more punters looking for his kind of music :-)
