    Default Tascam 1082 Vs APC40

Hrm ... given the choice which would you go for ?

Second hand price is roughly the same, Tascam obviously has firewire, motorized faders and soundcard, but lose some buttons.

Opinions on build quality etc. welcome.

Tascam is more of a Pro Tools piece if I'm correct, whereas the APC40 is obviously an ableton product. If that's true then pick your software.

If you plan on ever preforming live with it then get the APC40 for sure.
    Traktor/Itch: Xone Dx - MidiFighter x1
    Ableton: Livid Code - iPad - KP3
    Tech: Macbook Pro 17", intel i7, 8gb RAM, 500gb HD 7200RPM

The Tascam IS a more DAW interface granted, but has alot of what i'd look for in a controller as well.

Main use would be Ableton / Traktor as well as probably Reason.

The motorised faders and build quality seem top notch they were almost $1000 when they were released back in '05

Buttons are the main loss by the looks of it where it comes to Traktor / Ableton but I gain a nice big scrub wheel and those tasty motorized faders (and i HATE softakeover) ... the voices ... the voices....

There really doesnt seem to be any "live" vids of it in use.

    FW 1082

    4 encoders
    9 Faders - motorized
    8 Rotary pots
    1 Jogwheel
    1 10 i/o 24/96 Soundcard
    Firewire

    APC 40
    102 buttons
    X Fader
    9 Rotary Encoders
    9 Faders
    USB

    Current Hercules RMX
    5 Faders
    4i/o soundcard
    44 Buttons
    9 Rotary Pots
    USB

If you plan on live performing, get the apc40. If not, get the tascam (you have no idea how much I want motorized faders)

    @theory28

They move in relation to what happens on the screen e.g. same as LED feedback but for faders, you can jump between scenes and the faders will always be in the correct position so no need for soft-takeover.

    @ Garygary1

You think the build quality isn't up to it or layout ?
