Default Recommended controller for new guys- affordable

Hey guys, a buddy of mine and I have really been into electronic music for a while now, and we started to play around with Virtual DJ on the computer. We've been playing with Virtual DJ for around 6 months or so and we have been thinking about buying a controller so we can have smoother more controlled transitions as well as expand what we can do. We looked on the internet and were overwhelmed, there are so many controllers out there. We found out we don't need 10 channels on the controller just a couple. We also quickly realized that most of them are very very expensive aka the Tractor S4.

So i was wondering if you guys could give me some suggestions on a good solid controller that we should buy that is mid range and wont cost over $200-300 and that we can connect into the Virtual DJ interface. Thanks for all your help.

Hercules RMX. Don't know how much they sell for now - but they are amazing for starters. The new version, the 4MX works too, but the RMX was solid.

Also you can get a used VCI-100 MKI and an audio 2 for about 300-400 - I would highly recommend this. Don't get something too cheap or you'll regret it when you quickly want to start upgrading your gear.

EDIT: PS, i think you meant traktor S4, not S2.

i started on the spin, but quickly upgraded to the s4 within 9 months.

spend the money now so you dont waste it later, and if theres two of you? more the reason to go big or go home and grab a sick 4 deck controller like the s4 with the upgrade to traktor 2 included.

**personally, i didnt care much for VDJ but thats just my honest opninon

    Amen. +1

If you're going the VDJ route (I'm personally also a Traktor guy) and are willing to drop some serious cash like you would on teh S4, you can get the Denon-MC6000.

I started on a Behringer BCD3000 which cost peanuts. Once I knew DJing was for me, I splashed out on a VCI100SE that I still use ...

X1 is great to start on because it works great along side just about any other controller out there if you decide to get something else.
