Default Do you actually listen to music or "listen" to music?

    Hey guys,

Just wanted to share this video I saw about 30 minutes ago. It's an old video but it really changed my perception of "listening" to music and I think it could possibly change yours too for the better. It's a TED talk by Evelyn Glennie, a scottish virtuoso percussionist who has been deaf since the age of 12. This video was an ear opener and as DJs/Producers I think everyone could benefit from taking the 32 minutes of their day to watch this.

    Here's the link: http://www.ted.com/talks/view/lang/eng//id/103

A nice take-away for DJ's might be the idea that people expect to hear things based on what they see-- exactly why the best djs and laptop performers dance and make large gestures right before the big drop or while tweaking fx, and make smaller movements while in the middle of a blend.

Yeah that's something I learned too. To me, DJing seems to be a combination of showmanship, crowd reading, adaptability and music taste all in one.

I love the idea that she has been profoundly deaf from the age of 12, but still holds that Aberdeenshire accent.

Amazing, in more ways than one.

I wondered about that. How is that even possible?

She remembers what it feels like to sound like that.

    That was amazing.

What was the last piece she played? Sounds so familiar, but I can't quite place it.
