Default First Gig, I need help!

I have my first dance coming up that I will be DJing in a month. I have everything I need from a controller, sound card, and a laptop. I also have 2 krk rp5's but clearly those wont work when it comes to being loud enough to fill a cafeteria!

If someone could recommend me some speakers that I should buy and also an amp, that will be loud enough for a fairly large school cafeteria. I don't really know what to look for since I'm sort of new to DJing. So if you guys could help me with my problem that would be great.

    Thanks!

Hire a soundsystem from a mobile DJ.

Yeah, the Harbingers can kick it. But it might make more sense to rent. For $600 I'm sure you could get a kick ass system.

yeah, but youre out the 600 for the next time you need speakers...

if you buy em, you own em. and can use em whenever you want.

id personally only rent if it was covered in my fee or by the venue. not shelling out $600 for speakers to use once.. when (theoretically) you might not be getting paid (that much)

But you don't shell out $600 for a rental. I should have been more clear. That would be very silly You probably shell out a fraction of what you would, and could possibly get it covered in your fee for a future gig until it becomes a sound investment.

I would rent for the first gig and if they decide to bring you back regularly then look at buying. No sense in spending the money on something you might not need again.
