Stanton SC System

Has anyone been to Musikmessse, NAMM, etc. and played with the Stanton SC system? It was supposed to be released in early May, but I haven't heard anything about it. I've never played with it, but it definitely looks interesting for a vinyl/DVS guy like me getting into the midi age. A little pricey, but if it does it's job well I might be inclined to get it.

Any info would be appreciated.

What do you think of it? How does the platter feel compared to other CD turntables like the Denon's or the CDX? How was the response? Better than Serato or Traktor Scratch? How's the overall quality? Do you think it will hold up over time?

Have you played with anything using the new Serato Scratch program? If so, do you how does the response of SC system in Traktor compare to the Serato Scratch program/hardware?

Any other insights you have about it. Also, when do you think it will ship, if you're in the know.

In the spirit of full disclosure, I'll tell you that I've been hired by Stanton recently and will be starting work there in June. That's why I've had access to that hardware before it's been released. I'm not sure when it's going to get released for retail, but I would guess it will be more like late summer / early fall - but I don't know for sure.

As for the build quality, it's solid and big. The experience feels very much like working with a traditional deck. The platter is heavy, and the unit is very well made. The coolest thing about the SCS (in my eyes) isn't the hardware itself - it's the fact that it's so programmable. If you invest a little time learning the syntax, you'll have a platform to really get into the guts of how it works and make MAJOR changes to it's behaviors. Think about things like having access to conditional statements and how they would be used with the "super fader" concept. Imagine being able to use the mixer section as an interface and controller for your favorite DAW, then turn around and DJ with it. It's very cool stuff, and without a doubt the most flexible controller announced this year.

The SCS has MUCH lower latency than a DVS. It doesn't have to do the A/D conversions or determine positional data, and this eliminates most of the delay a DVS system has.

Back to the SCS. How's the fader on the mixer? How's it compare to some of the better mixers for scratching? Do you know if it is replaceable? Like could I replace it with the Faderx or something?

How does the motorized fader work on the deck? If you sync in Traktor or something, do it automatically move the platter to the correct speed?

You say it's programmable, will there be a lot of info around about how to work with the programming of the SCS? What could you program it in (Traktor, Live)?

Thanks for the congrats! My title will be DJ Product Specialist, but it looks like I'll be doing a bit of everything from development to support and marketing.

I can't comment on the specifics for the 1M, but I can say that I think you'll be happy with the shipping specs.

The motorized fader on the 1D will work as you described. If you have it mapped to a deck, it will reflect the pitch value of that deck. When you switch decks, the controller will match settings. This is also true of the knobs and platter as well as the pitch fader. You can see alot of that in action in the videos from NAMM and Messe on YouTube.

I know that Stanton wants to build a community around SCS programming. The cool thing is that you'll already have templates available to you so that you can hit the ground running. As your comfort level increases, you'll be able to "hack" it's functionality to suit your needs. More on this later. I'll tell you that this is my FAVORITE part of the SCS, and the reason I think it's a better controller than the other stuff announced this year.

Congrats on teh job neMonic, what kind of skill set is required to land a job like that? I would love to get a job at a similar company, designing electric fences + security systems just isnt doing it for me...
