Default cdj 2000/ cdj 900 as midi controllers whats the appeal

Just wondering what the appeal to using 2 cdj 2000 as midi controllers for traktor is it seems like a very expensive option compared to just using a mixer and a x1 for example

    does any1 use this setup

    Just as timecode/HID/MIDI controllers?

A lot of money for quite a limited feature set.

theres nothing wrong with using cds, but its absolutely stupid to spend thousands on cdjs just to control software, when u can get controllers that do the job much better for much cheaper

Usually when I've seen it, it's to maintain compatibility for CD/USB DJs.

I'd buy it in a second if I was a club owner/promoter who still DJ'd. I also probably wouldn't use it that much…but there's the occasional time that I actually want a pitch fader. So, there's that.

i agree with you, but i mean, everyones gonna have their personal preferance and opinion on what works best for them. thats all im saying. any car (especially say one you know and have a history with-- i had a car that would not die no matter what i threw at it) will get you from a to b just as well as a porche will... same with using ANY kind of controller or interface with any software. there are benifits and weaknesses to any way you decide to do something. its all about preferance.

shit if i could afford to have a couple thousand dollar cdj setup to use as a midi controller i would in a heart beat. its like when people buy nice cars and shit just cause they can. no real reason other than that.

@djnesquigs... you are entirely missing the point. If you have an opinion on spending $2000 on a CDJ just to use it as a nice jog wheel with some buttons it doesn't make you a techist.

And in a nice car you at least get to thrash it about. Using a CDJ2000 as a MIDI controller is the equivalent to buying a Porsche, driving it in the city, getting stuck in a traffic jam and then getting your nice seats soaked by a downpour before you can get the top down.

You might think you're cool. Everyone else will think you are a complete arse. And they'd be right.

    no, youre missing the point

who cares if you or anyone thinks your cool? maybe your personal workflow is more compatable with a CDJ setup and you have heaps of cash. are you gonna tell me you wouldnt buy them (and use them with traktor AND cdjs AND usb) if you had the money?

if you can afford it, and that is what you want.... my question is
