Default Post your top 10 musical influences outside of EDM

Curious to hear your top 10 bands/musicians/artists that have influenced you outside of electronic music.

Hard question I know. Here's what comes to mind for me (not necessarily in order):

    NIN
    Tool
    Rage Against the Machine
    Deftones
    311
    Smashing Pumpkins
    Sublime
    Outkast
    The Doors
    Michael Jackson
Macbook Pro 15" (2.3 GHz Quad i7, 8GB RAM, 512GB SSD), S4, Maschine, Beat Masher, Cue Master

    Radiohead
    Pearl Jam

    The Strokes
    Maxïmo Park
    Arcade Fire

Definitely not in order, that would take me days to work out.

My father was a big Stones fan, and I grew up with that and the Doors around the house. As he has gotten older, he's moved more into folk, and so I've always known a little bit about it (but it's really not my thing).

Personally the first CD I ever bought for myself was the Wayne's World soundtrack. When I was in middle and even a bit into HS (I graduated in '03) I was into rock. Godsmack, Dropkick Murphys, Linkin Park. I also listened to some punk stuff, along the lines of Rancid, Anti-Flag, The Misfits, Operation Ivy yatta yatta. I eventually moved on to more industrial/harder stuff like Fear Factory.

And then I got into Aphex Twin. And then I went and saw The Crystal Method (Uberzone opening) when I was 14, and it all went downhill from there.

As in how can NIN and Outkast be 'outside of electronic music'? Reznor's been using computers since the Atari ST days. Outkast produce their music electronically, Blur started producing everything 'inside the box' (as Albarn called it) when they recorded 13.

EDM = Electronic dance music ... [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electronic_dance_music"]Electronic dance music - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia[/ame]

Probably anything that does not resemble "computer" music I suppose.
