Default Mixed in Key - Gripe

So, I went out and purchased Mixed in Key awhile back. You know, I liked the program well enough or else I wouldn't have bought it. It's not needed, but it's just "nice" if you will.

I was still using a Windows based PC at the time. I went to go re-download it for the Macbook Pro I just got, and then came upon an issue. So I went back and forth with emails with the company for a bit.

    "Hi,

We understand that some companies sell licenses for multiple operating systems in a single package, but that is not the case with Mixed In Key. We always ask our DJs to purchase a new version of Mixed In Key for Mac OS X since it requires different licensing. As a special "thank you" for being a valued customer, we will give you free lifetime updates for all platforms after your purchase. All future versions of Mixed In Key will become free for you.

Here is the page to buy your Mac OS X license: http://www.MixedInKey.com/BuyNow.aspx

    Cheers,

I have to say this is pretty bogus. I'm not happy with this, considering I paid $58 for something that's completely useless for me now. I won't recommend MiK for anyone unless you feel like shelling out twice the amount if you ever decide to make a switch from Mac to PC and back.

I'm a firm believer in the "one product, one license" mantra. It shouldn't matter what operating system you are using. That's like if Native Instruments had one version of Traktor for Mac, and another for PC.

    It's just terrible business practice.

So just warning people, if you're thinking about purchasing it, it's decent software, but don't plan on switching operating systems.

since you already purchesed the product I would recommend downloading it on a torrent site now... normally I would be highly against this but if you already have a licence that you paid money for you are technically not breaking any law.... just "redownloading" the program

I complained and they let me have a Mac version. I appreciate they did it as good customer service, but I do think their current system is completely unreasonable. There are so many examples of cross platform licenses it isn't even funny. At the very least, they should let you have a big discount to move the license.

there are much more ridiculous licenses around in the business world, to cry bout a single platform license.

i don't second slpower01, torrenting mik for os x will break the law. they hold the rights to mik and you have to buy the new license for os x if you want to stay clean.
it is a ripoff non the less.

contact them, refer to happydan, get some more details about his case per pm, and with a bit luck you'll be a multi license owner for $58.

thats what i would to .

We aren't in the business world. If business customers want to be stupid with their money, that's their prerogative. If commercial customers expect this, it should be provided!

I tried RE3 a while ago. Man, that was clunky software. I found it tried to do too much. I like MiK's simplicity.

I've had a lot of problems with MIK crashing. Author seems more hellbent on bringing a new product to market than to fix the current issues in the said software. Sad.

You can't torrent new versions of mixed in key it will not work with how the software is built. You need to authenticate with there servers to get the the key tags to download to the program.

I would complain to customer service some more. See what they tell you. I would also keep posting on there message boards about the problem as it is a big one. Regardless of it it's their policy to make people pay double duty for a program. I just picked up Dora the Explorers Backpack Adventure for 5$ from some bin at WalMart and I can install that on any platform I wish.

I love how they didn't even give you lifetime upgrades for your current version but only after you would give them another 60$ for the exact same program that's funny. Are the licenses transferable if that were the case then I would consider paying a discounted price for your Mac version but judging from how they treat there customers already I am 100% sure it's not.
