If you're tech savy, you could use Logmein Hamachi to create a vpn, install the hamachi client on both yours and your friend's computers, and then share a each person's selected folders with the other.

Here are the pros/cons of this vs a solution like dropbox
    Pros:
-No storage limit. Share as much or as little with your partner
-Sharing is network-based meaning all you need to do to share a folder is edit the folder's properties to allow access
    -Free for non-commercial use
-Remote Desktop access (depending on your pc/mac setup). So if your friend wanted help trying to configure something, you could remote into his machine and show him how or do it for him

    Cons:
-No automatic syncing. Unlike dropbox which replicates files/changes to each location/user connected to that account, this solution is much like sharing a network drive at work. If your friend wants a file in your folder, he'll have to copy it to his computer and vice versa

I use Hamachi for pretty much any pc/mac I own plus those of my family members so that we can share files and it's worked great. I'm sure there are ways that you could set up folder monitoring to keep a set of folders in sync but that really depends on how you want to use it. Either way, using Dropbox or the solution I provided above would give you what you're looking for.

    Here's the link to Hamachi
