The sad truth in this thread makes me never want to play out (or even go out) ever again.

I fucking hate this shit and think it should be illegal. Flat out sexism. I will never go to a night that does things like this.

I think the whole idea of trying to draw in lots of girls is silly anyway- it implies that the night is about sex and pulling and I find those nights have the absolute worst atmospheres. I want to go to a night for the music and talk to like minded people regardless of their gender.

THIS. I don't get it, are poeple really so fucking shallow minded? Girls should just be seen as potential crowd as any one else, I mean, its not like the parties is there "for the dudes" and the girls are only allowed because the dudes want to hump them. Its about people getting together for the music and the atmos, "letting in the chicks" seems like something retarded you only get at shallow electro-house clubs. Have some respect both towards others and towards yourselves, don't lower your standards like that. Jeez.

Meh, if you promote specialist EDM nights, quite often you find that they can be real a sausage fest.

Personally I hate nights that are just full of men standing around nodding their head to the music. Can be the best music in the world but it'll be a crap night.

Sometimes you just need to readdress the balance.

This site right here, for example, is not the place I would come to promote to as it's just full of geezers. Is controllerism and djing sexist? No... but it's naive to think sometimes your night is, on paper (or flyers) is just going to appeal to males and you want to do something to counter that.

    That's a broken argument.

    * Higher price for non-white people
    * Country and western music being played

Are those two situations comparable? I imagine they would both get mostly white people in. No? Didn't think so. People going to a night because it tailors to their interests and people not going to a night because they are being discriminated against are two very fucking different things.

On another note why do you can so much about genre ratio? Are you there to try and have sex? If not what difference does it make? People are people and you should be perfectly capable of treating them as such rather than seeing them as a guy or a girl.

    WTF!?

Who is talking about discrimination... We're talking about promotion.

Mate, have you ever promoted any successful parties? Just out of interest...

Charging people different amount based upon their gender/age/race/whatever is discrimination. It doesn't matter if it's entry for a night or anything, it just is.

And no, I've never attempted to organise a night personally but I hob knob around with enough to know you don't need that bullshit to have a good event. Hell if anything I think it makes nights far far worse as it attracts guys interested in the girls rather than the music.

So if you're trying to promote a holiday to families and you say kids come free is that ageist?

Sorry but clearly you have never had your own hard cash on the line when trying to throw a club night.

I'm just surprised you think clubbing has zero to do with people checking out the opposite sex (or same sex with gay nights)... that's the way it is.

In an ideal world you'd promote a night that was naturally popular, with good djs people of all race, age and gender are willing to pay money to see.

But if your night seems to "blokey" on papaer but you are passionate about it and know that once you have a crowd in there it will take off then I see nothing wrong with trying to re address the balance

So who is kids coming free discriminating against? It's not the parents since they are paying for the kids.
It's not adults without children because the offer is open to them if they happen to get some kids. No one is being excluded or penalised here.

Because I don't organise nights I know shit about them? How does that work? Can I not learn from my friends at all? A good deal of my friends at promoters and none of the ones who are successful have in any way marketed their night with drinks or sex. They get a sick line up, find a venue where the staff are not assholes to the customers and put the leg work in giving out flyers every night. They smash it and they generally don't have an issue with genre balance, and even when it is skewed no one gives a shit.

Where do you live where the girls don't go to raves?
