Echo Effect Question

After holding the echo button+jog wheel, how do you keep the echo effect going while remaining hands free ??

I think shift + echo works, I think it engages freeze straight away though. I reckon you'd be better off using the dedicated effects part of the deck. More control doing it that way too.
