Xone DX vs. Novation Twitch

I've been learning on a pair of techs and serato but I'm not too keen on bringing them to college, especially as I don't have a flight case to protect it all yet.
I'd like to stay with serato. I've found a refurb DX for 500 on ebay, and the Twitch is the same price. to be used in for bedroom and small college parties, so in/outs not a terribly big concern.

Any suggestions, or is it a tossup?

There's no correct answer, you gotta decide what suits you better. Most obvious difference is the quantity of decks available to you. You into 3/4 deck mixing?

somewhat. wouldn't expect to use the 4th deck much, the 3rd deck maybe a half dozen times in a night at most. could you use one of the decks to mix in another performer's output?

I believe so but it's been a while since I've looked at it. Why not have a glance at the manual?

the twitch has an aux in channel.

for the record, the allen's jogs are not touch sensitive. I'd say have a loot at the reviews all over the net on both and dig into the manuals for specific doubts.

I'm guessing the sound quality on the A+H is far superior to the Twitch but on most other things I'd lean toward the twitch. The Xone DX isn't as I understand it a real mixer - it requires Itch to be connected on a computer to run at all - so that kind of destroys one of the significant benefits of getting a mixer over a controller. The jog wheels on the DX are crap and the overall feel of the unit (based on my one time playing with it at guitar center) is pretty flimsy for A+H gear; I was rather surprised at how cheap the whole thing felt. Sure the extra channels are nice, but I'd trade them in for that cut-n-paste button-mashing feature of the twitch.

Really? I'd be very surprised. I couldn't make a good judgement on it when I tried it at sónar (I can hopefully tell you tomorrow ), but all the reviews I've read have said the Twitch's sound card is loud and low noise, and I very much doubt the DX's is much (if at all) better. Remember, focusrite and novation are the same company and focusrite is famed for its production soundcards.

With the addition of the sp6 sample player in itch the 3rd and 4th decks are not as necessary. I would say twitch with this in mind

Focusrite made a name for itself making very high end mic pre-amps long before it ventured into the budget sound card market. IMHO their budget soundcards are just that ... budget soundcards. I've tried out a Saffire6 on a very adequate reference monitoring system and it took me all of 15 seconds to decide it was not a sound I could work with. Hopefully, Twitch sounds good/better but I wouldn't presume so based simply on the Focusrite name ...
