    Method 1.

    1. Get a Firewire 800 cable
    2. Plug Firewire cable each end into both machines.
3.Boot New 17 laptop into "target disk mode" by holding down the "T" key on bootup.
    4. Download Carbon Copy Cloner on the 13'
    5. Run Carbon Copy Cloner and Choose the "firewire" disk as the taget drive.
    6. When Finished reboot 17' - all done

    Method 2.
Carbon Clone onto a USB drive. When its done, boot the 17' from USB (Alt key) run Carbon Copy clone again - this time onto the onto the internal disk.

Either method will keep your system EXCATLY the same licences and all, I've had issues with time machine & migration assistant screwing up licenses before (Adobe).

Some peeps swear by super duper instead of CCC, personally I found it slower and it crashed a few times so ...

I'd use Carbon Clone, that's what I did when I got my new MacBook Pro as well. Worked perfectly fine.

+1 for CCC. Made installing the new HDD in my MBP really straightforward
