Traktor has internal recording that saves as a .wav file. It's easy to then convert it to mp3 using any of the freely available tools out there. like iTunes, audacity, etc...

If there were such a thing as the "best" software, this question wouldn't need to be asked because everyone would be using the same thing.

Depends on what you need, be more precise, do you want to use high quality effects and hot cues with a precise timecode control, or do you just want the basic stuff.

Ableton is probably the best software to "create" mixes on. Where "create" mixes means that you sit down and multi-track out a mix. You haven't mentioned what genre of music you hope to mix, so it's not really clear what kind of mix you hope to "create."

If you're asking what software is the best to do a *live* dj mix where, although you might have planned the set in advance, you "perform" the mix.. either traktor or serato. Traktor is more common in europe, serato is more common in america. Traktor is more oriented around pure controller djing, serato is more for people coming from a vinyl background and mindset.

An inexpensive numark controller and a copy of traktor LE is a great choice for a beginner, regardless of genre. A step up from that is something like the VCI-100SE, which I have and frankly love.
