I watched your mix on my TV, with the audio going through the Klipschs, with the subwoofer turned on. Here's my feedback.

    - I appreciate the format, including the traktor overlay. However the angle of this video means much of what you are doing on the S4 is obscured by your sky blue sweatshirt. If the camera were two feet or so to the left, I think it would be a better angle.

    - I don't care for this kind of music, but your track selection seems reasonable for this kind of... pop.. club.. music?

    - Your phrasing throughout the mix is really poor. If you are going to be mixing quickly and layering lots of tracks, I feel like you should focus more on the underlying phrasing of the mixes. Otherwise it can just sound like you are playing a bunch of records at once, tempo synced, but the ultimate result is both busy and boring. Like two dance radio stations playing at once.

    - Similarly, you often have two or three records in the mix without heavily EQing them before bringing them each in. The overall effect is mud. more than 2 decks = heavy EQ.

    - Is this supposed to be a "mix" or a "routine"? You seem to be trying to do a lot of "controllerism" type stuff, which combined with trying to mix on 4 decks at once seems like a pretty tall order. You seem to end up doing neither aspect particularly well.. perhaps if you tried to do "less" in each mix but do "more" of each "bit" you do? As it is now, it's less musical than a "mix" should be and less technically impressive or thematically coherent than a "routine" should be.

Thanks for posting, and keep at it!

i appreciate the feedback. checked a few of your tracks, your tastes are definitely different from mine so maybe this stuff isn't really your jam i've never been told that my stuff sounds like "mud" either recorded or in the club lol. edit: i DO get what your saying btw, but i think most people don't hear the songs as separate tracks playing on top of each other, while you do

i was careful with my phasing with each mash up, all the bars were lined up with each other. maybe i'm misunderstanding what your saying?

its not a routine, its a mix. i pretty much do mash up after mash up live, eqing was decent to me overall as well.

i'll agree that the vid quality was pretty bad.

As for my style, I'd say its sorta semi mainstream, I get that your not into this stuff and i appreciate the feedback. from the positivity of other comments (yt, other forums etc.) i feel your feedback has more to do with your musical tastes than anything else. sure its not perfect, but i'm far from being "mud" imo to each their own though.

ps: i enjoyed some of your sc stuff

edit: btw my bad if my response sounds arrogant or whatever i do agree with some points you make, and i do appreciate you writing a full review (even if i don't completely agree with it)

It's fair to say that your stuff is very far on the "maximal" end, which, even when I am in mashup land, is not usually where I am at. I like to let the mix "breathe" a bit, and I think it's fair to say that there is not much room in your megamixes to take a breath.

What I mean by "mud" and "busy" is kinda the same thing, with "mud" being 'overloaded in the low end' and "busy" 'overloaded in the high end'. One and a half bassdrums is better than two. Two are better than three, and so on. I feel like when you're mixing super maximal music super quickly, you risk losing the distinct and individual elements of each track.. almost paradoxically making it have *less* personality than the tracks would have if blended more subtly?

i was careful with my phasing with each mash up, all the bars were lined up with each other. maybe i'm misunderstanding what your saying?
Yep, I'm talking *phrasing* not *phasing*. Phasing is what the phase meter shows you. Phrasing is the underlying structure of song which includes natural transitions, which are usually points where it "makes sense" to mix. You know, the 8, 16, 32 bar "parts" of the song that make up its structure. You seem to have a pretty good head for this in general, but *especially when mixing mashups very quickly* I feel that being *perfect* with your phrasing makes a big difference.

sure its not perfect, but i'm far from being "mud" imo to each their own though.
To be clear, I was never calling *you* mud, I was just trying to describe the sonic quality of parts of your mix, especially parts where 3 or more decks are active.

ps: i enjoyed some of your sc stuff
Heh, hopefully you listened to some of the uber-mashuppy stuff as well as the deep house..

edit: btw my bad if my response sounds arrogant or whatever i do agree with some points you make, and i do appreciate you writing a full review (even if i don't completely agree with it)
It's good to believe in your work and I definitely don't take your response in a negative or personal way. We're all here looking for a community of people who will give us honest feedback, and that's the spirit in which I try to respond.

Definitely enjoyed this mix. It's quite the high energy mix and steps away from the status quo of just mixing songs one after the other. I can see where Awesomer is coming from if you're into low energy, simple mixes that just focus on what the original artist had created. Instead, this adds a creative flair that's not easy to reproduce and is unique, noticeable and makes you stand out, which is definitely a must in this business.

On another note: Awesomer, why would you be listening to a low quality YouTube mix on your Klipsch speakers? If he had posted a FLAC or 320 kbps mp3 then maybe, but I'm pretty sure that's why it sounded quite muddy for you.

@Hawk16 : I mention the speakers I am listening on whenever I give feedback, so they know what I say about the sound in context. I have XBMC hooked up to my TV and it has a youtube plugin, and the TV is hooked up to the Klipschs... soooo... "I listened to your mix on the Klipschs" ..

Regarding being into "low energy" mixing.. I find that when something is "too exciting" it actually gets less exciting. Sometimes more is better, and sometimes more is just.. more. At that point, "less" can become "more" ... like you know how a mostly naked woman can be sexier than a completely buck naked woman.. ? YMMV. FWIW!
