    Default The Toronto DJ Scene

    Yo any Toronto DJs around?

I live in Paris now but may move to Toronto next year. I'm a bit jaded with the Paris scene and ready for something new.

I hear the Toronto DJ scene is interesting, Djs play to big crowds, get paid quite well and that house is big there.

I've also heard that some of the music is a bit shallow and all quite similar and that some people don't dance so much.

For any Toronto DJs out there or guys that have played there, is this more or less accurate?

What would make the scene better do you think?

    Any tips appreciated Cheers

Depends what you wanna play. If you wanna play the guv, footwork, comfort zone, you need to start establishing your name, and meeting industry people to get you opening spots. After that hopefully you impress them and things fall into place.
If you want to play, mainstream clubs like century room, cobra, tryst, lyme, cheval get to work on your top 40 and mash ups.
Generally speaking, its who you know that will get you started and keep the gigs coming. Inject yourself in the local scene and meet some people.
Although dont expect to make a career out of local DJing, the money isnt great, they know you need the opportunity and will probable play for next to nothing.

If you have the choice skip Ontario and look into Vancouver instead.

That place is sketchy as hell!

With that being said I can't think of a better after hours place where I had so much fun after the sun came up!

Thanks for the tips, good stuff!

I'll have a couple of contacts to get started, but I'm not into doing cheesy top 40 clubs so I'll check out the other places mentioned, like Comfort Zone and so on.

I'm glad I posted on here, as it really tells a different story to hear it from real DJs who have played there.
