What makes it not a dj program? A program that allows you to play multiple tracks or loops at the same time while also keeping the beats synced sounds like a dj program to me.

Here's JPLS from Minus playing a live PA in Detroit:

He's using traktor and ableton - would you not say that is different from a Monome and 303 that Kero is using?

DJ = disc jockey, there is no Disc Jockeying with Kero.

You're using broken logic- just because it's not like one ableton set doesn't mean it's not like others. Also if you have to be working with discs to be a DJ does that mean that all controller DJs are not actually DJs? After all- there's no disc jockeying with traktor.

I don't know why you're taking such offence to the term DJ.

Additionally you should stop linking videos like those ones- you can't see at all what they are doing...

My point is, Kero is not playing tracks, which is what a DJ does. Kero is performing live with his own loops n 303

And a Monome isn't ableton. That is all, I have no qualms with DJs.

Yes, that's exactly what I said, he's playing loops, like many an ableton DJ set. I didn't say monome was ableton either, just that that particular monome application can be easily replicated in ableton.

Right, except that he adds a live aspect through the 303.

Pop has got it on the mark though - monomes and launch pads are dj sets with stem recordings. Youre playing with prerecorded material.

Either way the 303 brings in a live aspect and it is why I chose to display the video in an attempt to exemplify what I mean by live performance. I definitely differentiate between DJs who solely use other artist's tracks from producers who perform their own tracks/loops live alongside additional hardware such as a drum machine, 303 or synth.

Do you not see the difference from track A ----> B mixing and live performance or am I imagining shit here?
