    You DEFINITELY need to wait on your decision, here. VDJ has just taken on Adion (the creator of DJ Decks) as one of their developers.

    VDJ8 is going to be a combination of VDJPro7 and DJ Decks.

    That's pretty exciting - I'm REALLY looking forward to it.

    i found cdj a fantastic peice of software to learn with, i used it for a while because the overlapping waveforms really helped me, however i found that i wanted more very quickly, yes i probably didnt use it to its full potential and i know a few dj's that swear by it, however i did find traktor much more powerful, much more reliable and a whole lot more support, i was greeted with nothing but arrogance at the vdj forum. I will never change back nomatter how good the next version is, i love my traktor, its really is in my opinion just a better peice of software, the skinnable interface in vdj is great if youre at home and playing around but the info that traktor gives you is much more important than pretty looks when playing out.

    just my 2p worth try both and go with your gut.

    You seem very well intentioned and excited about DJ'ing which is great. But before you keep starting threads about extensively covered topics use this feature of the site;

    It is very helpful. Happy hunting!

    Bring on the hate... I use vdj, for me it is missing a couple of features, such as chained effects, but that will hopefully be a thing of the past when vdj8 gets released. VDJ also allows basic VST plugins that is a real bonus, although really looking forward to see if adion impliments his code in that regard as djdecks could run vsti's like effectrix. The effects in vdj at the moment though are imho just as good as traktors soundwise, there is a couple of crap ones though, and just a heads up Duen - duen one of the plugin designers is just about to release a replica of both of serato's slicer effects.

    The mapping is pretty powerful with none of the limitations of traktors 8 variables and with programmers like phantomdj many of its limitations can be overcome. Although the mapping in djdecks shits all over any other program, it's just a little hard to understand.

    honestly though vdj has never been a turn key solution, it takes some time to get the right settings unlike traktor and serato, but with a little time invested for a dj using controllers it is pretty powerful now, and will become very powerful when the next version is released.

    I have a fairly one sided opinion as I have hardly used traktor, I couldn't get used to the mapping, with vdj I can just write what i want in script as apposed to selecting heaps of different boxes and modifiers. it is just a learning curve i never bothered to cross

    Virtual DJ is like 'tomy my first dj software' compared to traktor. plus vdj's audio quality is fuckin shite.

    there's the hate lol,

    I use an audio 8, through mackie monitors, and I can't tell the difference in the audio quality between the two programs.

    but you know what, i'll say anything so people like me and think i'm smart so "VDJ's shit! it's straight out of a fischer price catalogue..."

    Both are good stable programs if you are serious about DJing and use a computer solely for DJing.

    What steered me away from Virtual DJ is the sound quality. There is a big difference when your sound system big enough to not only covers large clubs but outdoors events as well.

    If you are a bedroom DJ choose the one that is most comfortable for you. Buying software because "everyone uses it" shows how little you put faith in yourself. It is no better than buying a pair of shoes too small despite the label says it is your size.

    Traktor is a very good piece of software but its certainly not without its flaws.
