Default USB Buspower Problem / Firewire is the solution?

    Hi There,

I was searching for my problem on Google and the Forumsearch but couldn't find a solution for it, i hope you guys can help me.
(I found the Problem a lot, but no answer to my question)

A few weeks ago i recorded a Set at home, after a while my external harddrive dropped out and i just couldn't reconnect as long my S4 was plugged in. (without the S4 it worked)
After i've done some research, i found out that on my MBP 15" not both USB Ports have the same power, so i switched the Ex. Harddrive to the port which is closer to the Powersupply from the Mac.
The HD worked then, but the S4 didn't work anymore after the change.

Thank God this didn't happen on a gig.

    My question is now:
If i connect the S4 to the USB-Port with more Power and connect a Firewire 800 HD to the Firewire port, would that help?
(i have heard that the Firewire Port has more Power then the USB ports, is that true?)

Here is how my regular setup was:

    Macbook Pro 15" (AC Powered)
    OS X Lion
    Traktor Pro 2
    S4 (Buspowered)
1TB LaCie Rugged Drive 7200 rpm USB (Buspowered)

2 Monitors connected to the S4 and the Headphones too.

So, would the Firewire idea help or are there better solutions to that problem?

I even tried to add AC Power to the S4 but this didn't help either.
The strange thing is, 3 days later it just worked perfect again... without AC Power on the HD or the S4.
I just want to eliminate the risk that this could happen during a Gig.

Can somebody help me with this problem?

A powered, external USB hub should fix the issue.

Right, i forgot to say that something.

I have the original S4 Flightcase, and i don't really have space for more cables.
So if there is a Version to solve that problem without any other powered sources, that would be great.

So why not just use the AC adapter for the S4?

    Hi Xonetacular,

What you mean with AC Adapter for S4?
The Regular Powersupply for the S4, right?

    If Yes,
as i said, i can't put more cables in the S4 Flightcase.

And as i also mentioned in the opening post, to power the S4 external, didn't help when this was happening.

So i guess this wouldn't work
