Behringer ddm4000 and Traktor

Hi everyone,

I am new here and I need help before my new ddm4000 ends up in the wall!

I have read the postings on this topic already and nothing seems to work, I am yet to find a simple step by step guide on how to sync this properly.

Why can I not assign the traktor channels A and B to any of the ddm channels? I have loaded the correct .tks file and I have activated channels 1 and 3 on ddm for midi use with that middle setting knob under the display screen and yet all I can do is push buttons which seem to control the cue points on channels A or B but I am not getting any sound trough the mixer. What am I doing wrong??

So I've followed that set of instructions as well, and I'm still not getting any sound. Still only able to activate cue points from the ddm4000 so that means that the mixer is talking to traktor but I'm still not getting any sound on any of the channels. And definitely no blue LEDs as I've seen in some of the videos.

Do the Input and Output routing settings in traktor have anything to do with this? Or maybe audio setup, for which the only option I have is the standard laptop speakers.

I am really out of ideas, I dont know what I'm doing wrong?

Hmm..... what's your setup exactly? And what are you trying to achieve? For example, do you want two deck mixing with two channels on the DDM for audio and two for MIDI control?

Yep, ive got 2 1210s assigned to channels 2 and 4, and would like to assign A and B channels from traktor to channels 1 and 3. I understand that I could simply connect the audio out from laptop to a ddm channel via an RCA but that defeats the purpose of having a ddm4000.

Its buggin the hell out of me, must be something stupid simple that I keep missing.

Are you using the standard .tsi that came with Traktor 2 for your DDM? It may be worth trying a new .tsi file. I originally got mine from:

This is a full internal setup for the DDM, with channels 2&3 controlling Traktor's internal mixer, 1&4 controlling tempo etc, and the other sections controlling FX and loops. (It comes with a PDF explaining all the functions).

Ensure your DDM is setup in the "MIDI Menu" to dump to channel 16 and all sections are MIDI enabled.

This may not be the ideal map for your style, but it will help troubleshoot your MIDI connections!

Is your audio connected to your mixer at all or are you using Traktor just to play out of your computer speakers?

EDIT: If this works, it may be worth making your own map to suit!

EDIT 2: If you have a newer DDM (especially in the UK) the blue LED's on the channels have been replaced by green LED's. Some of the other buttons however (PFL, CF ON and Sampler buttons) remain blue.

Hi, really appreciate your help!

So I've mapped the mixer using the tsi file you suggested and again I am only able to control traktor through the mixer but I am still not getting any sound on either of the channels on my ddm.

Which leads me to this question, does the midi/usb cable provide sound output from traktor to the ddm, or does it only provide for turning knobs and switches??

In my traktor audio input and output settings, I do not have an option for ddm or midi selection (only my internal laptop speakers) - does that mean there is a driver missing??

Obviously I dont want to just control the knobs and switches through the ddm, I want the sound output from traktor assigned to my channels on the ddm.

Aha! I see your problem!

The MIDI to USB cable you have (or indeed any MIDI to USB cable) does not provide any audio from your computer. The MIDI connections on the DDM are purely for sending and receiving MIDI data from your mixer to Traktor in order to control faders / knobs etc.

In order to get audio from your computer to your mixer you need an external soundcard. (Unless your computer has more than one audio / line out port in which case you need a couple of cable's).

Some soundcards (i.e. The Audio 8 and similar) have built in MIDI ports so are a good solution if you have limited USB ports to plug everything in.

On another note, the DDM is an excellent mixer once you get your head round it, and if you need any more help with it, don't hesitate to ask

Ah damn - my fault for not exploring this before buying (in my defense neither behringer or traktor tell you that a dual out sound card is needed), I've been a vinyl dj for many years so now I'm paying the price while I learn about digital mixing.

Apart from not having any sound from traktor to ddm I am actually quite impressed with the mixer alone, really good value for your dollar. My plan is to get Serato but I can't buy it just yet - can you recommend a sound card that I can use in the mean time? I only want something cheap to use before I get Serato. Or any other quick fix solution?

I was a vinyl DJ for about 10 years before I started with digital so I fully sympathise! Even now my setup is a hybrid affair with Traktor as my DVS of choice with several MIDI controllers messing with both Traktor FX and Ableton clips / synths at the same time.

The best way to think of the DDM is like a normal 4 channel mixer with added MIDI capabilities, rather than something like the S4 with an onboard soundcard.

A for sound card suggestions, if you want something great for the long haul, personally I think that anything made by Native Instruments is a good choice. (And they come with a full version of Traktor at the minute). But if your set on Serato, it comes with a top notch sound card anyways.

If your after something relatively cheap to get you started, anything with at least two stereo outs will get you going. (Numark DJ IO, Novation NIO).

For a really cheap option, you could get an external USB line out or single port sound card and run one output from that and one from the headphone port on your laptop to your mixer. (Sound's pikey, but back in the day I used this for live setup's for about a year!).
