Like…I'm in the market…was planning on picking up a set later this week, but they're probably going to charge a bit over 300 each for mk2s that are electronically good but cosmetically "bleh". Only plus is no shipping and local.

And I knew the normal things to check, I meant something like "fat ass RCA cables mean that the cables are stressing the board" kinds of things.
The price varies on the turntable model. $300 on MK2. M3D and MK5 are in a different price range of course but not more than $500 each. Shipping is shouldered by the client. Local shipping cost around $30-50 one way per deck. I'm international shipping rate would vary depending on the country of course.

With regards to RCA cables, I don't use thick RCAs. It's useless to be honest and they are hard to fit under the tonearm plate cover especially using the cable holder underneath. I either use data cables or some RCA cables provided by the owner that aren't too thick to fit and have good shielding inside. Doing and external RCA female plugs fitted under or at the back of the decks would also be nice because you can choose and change the RCA cables anytime.

    A sample of my work.

Here's a pair of SL1200LTD Limited series. These babies are limited in production numbers. The picture below is the condition of the decks before I took them apart.

Scraped the paint to aluminum diecast

    Disassembled the power switch assembly...

After cleaning the tone arm section...

Re-built and calibrated the tone arm assembly...

SL-1200 Limited plate before repaint and reface...

    ...then

    Finished project.

Replaced all lights to super bright white. Strobe, 33/45 and pop up lamps

Here's another pair I did 3 years ago.

Looks like these decks have been submerged in the ocean for months. They look like oysters have lived on them.

    Scraped the paint to metal.

    Primer painted.

    Base paint.

    New parts

Replaced the power LEDs to blue, 33/45 rpm LEDs to white and Pop-Up lamp to bright white LEDs.

    New aluminum pitch decals.

Wet sanding after top clear coat.

Getting ready for buffing. Compound, swirl remover, polish and wax.

    Scraped platter

Newly refaced, painted and refaced again

    Replaced parts were:

Pitch control (removed the bearings and springs)
    Aluminum pitch decals
    Tonearm rest/clips
    Power switch
LEDs (pop-up lamps, 33/45rpm buttons, power switch strobe)
Turntable legs. 1 deck was missing 2 legs.
RCA cables and connectors. Eliminated the ground wires.

The base frame is finished in glossy white and all other parts are in flat white and flat black.

    White and black tonearm section

Finished in midnight blue metallic. I like this color very much.

    Here are some pics before:

I did my usual refurbishment on this deck.

-Repainted the base frame with automotive polyurethane thinner based paint
-repainted and overhauled the tonearm assembly
-replaced LEDs. Strobe and Pop-up LEDs to blue, 33/45rmp to bright white.
    -replaced new pitch control
    -replaced tonearm clip
    -replaced aluminum pitch decal
    -refaced the platter
    -eliminated the ground wires

    Result:

Wow, those look great. The white with the LEDS looks sooo clean.

I've been thinking about getting into repairing broken TT's for a while now, but didn't know where to start. What mechanical problems do you usually run into with these? How do you go about diagnosing the repair? Are there any problems that just can't be fixed without spending more than the table's worth?

I remember when you posted those LTDs on DJF, I died a little inside.
I did it because it was fun. It's fun to do bad things.

Gorgeous work- I hope to get to that level.

I think I asked you before but what paint do you use?

I am going to need to repaint some decks so any tips? In the past I always just cleaned tables up really well but I have some now that could use paint. I don't have access to a shop or anything so this will all be done on my balcony and I would prefer to use spray cans.

Are there any really good automative type spray paints you would recommend?

    What about buffing?

Im loving the whites, gorgeous clean lines.

Im planning on doing a bit of house keeping on my techs myself. How much pain is the tonearm to dis-assemble/re-assemble and re-calibrate?

I'd love to attempt a paint job by myself but it might be easier (and WAY faster) for a bodyshop to do it. The only thing that puts me off is the tonearm assembly.
