That is the most crass thing ive read in a while.

    Anyhoo moving on from that,

I think its really easy for us to sit here and lambast the media industry for all this.
I agree with a lot of whats been said here, especiallu what Steve has said about this whole model being out dated. It is but i dont see that the industry is "way behind" and needs "to catch Up" so much as it needs to accept a few things.

Lets face it the industry is still pulling money out of out pockets.

The fact is that sharing information is being used as a smokescreen for MASS THEFT. Its got fuck all to do with Big Brother or Corporate Manipulation (well yeah a little bit). But who can honestly say that The Pirate Bay arent simply taking the piss just a bit. I mean come on.
I hear all this on TV about freedom of speech and rights to information but the Pirate Bay shares a tiny amount of info that should rightly be in the public domain. The rest of it (and its a fucking lot) is Britney albums and Batman Films and Games and Porn. All free all over the world.

I too share that Punk Ethic and i consider myself to VERY Left Wing (who do you know that has a collection of the Communist Manifesto in various editions- ME) but people are disillusioned if they think that that means Free Shit For Eveyone because is does not. i fucking HATE that Hippy/liberal shit attitude of take what you can and not put back into society. Its as damaging as the Right Wing selfishness that we suffered in UK in the 80s.
There is social responsibility involved. And yes the industry is a cunt and is socially irresponsible but does it make it right to be the same.
You cant just always fuck the industry because the industry has to survive especially in hard times like now.

Theres got to be a cut of point when society says "right thats enough, your taking the piss now" and that is what has just happened to The Pirate Bay.

Trust me it really isn't that big a difference. Keeping people from getting knowledge and culture is the best way to control them.

Keep your citizens un-educated and un-informed and you have yourself a little nice north korea going on.

    EDIT:

and just for the record before someone throws it out there that tpb are making millions, they are not getting rich.

It's only stealing because the law has declared it illegal. I know that sounds tautological, but my point is that here is a hugely pervasive practice that is clearly in demand but which demand the law has not taken into consideration.

My feeling seems radical now but I guarantee will be the standard in coming years: The act of release of a work is a relinquishment of authorial control. In other words, you can retain whatever rights you want and whatever approved version you want -- by not releasing it in a form that can be duplicated. But the release into digital form is an admission that the world will duplicate, mash, and remix your work. It doesn't matter what the law is, it doesn't matter what your feelings are. That's the way it is. The law must accommodate reality. You can't be a commercial photographer who posts her work on Flickr and then claim to be shocked -- shocked! -- that someone downloaded and used your work in another context (as one photographer claimed, and sued). That's naive.

Karlos, it is theft so long as the law continues to claim that there is a thing being stolen, and so long as the outdated business model insists the originator has the right to earn a living from it in an archaic way. The smart and tiny mammals are already scurring beneath the reptilian feet of these outmoded laws and benefitting from other, new ways of earning revenue that will solidify into a new status quo. You're basically trying to tell P2P uses to get with the program. I'm telling you the program is broken and dated and already being replaced, like it or not.

emp: it's very different. The Nazis and Hitler were burning books filled with information that disagreed with their political and social stances. It was anti-semitic, sexist, homophobic, racist and agorophobic. Restricting the internet has to do with money, plain and simple. And we aren't even discussing restricting the internet, but limiting the flow of data that is held under specific laws.

Karlos: I think I may have mis-spoken. I don't believe it should all be free. I think that people should be paid for their work, especially if I am receiving a copy of it. I have no problem paying for music, I do it all the time. What I am saying is that if you treat me like a criminal I am more likely to act like one. My rights should not be infringed, and when they are, as the recording industry has done in the past, they should be punished. But they aren't. Instead I am left holding alone on this one, bitching.

What are the alternatives, though? Technology has once again surpassed the previous medium and the system needs to change. Putting these four guys in jail won't do anything to curtail Pirate Bay, or sharing in general.

I understand the difference between torrents and general file sending (zshare, sendspace, etc.) but what's to stop that from being the next step in the recording industry's crosshairs? It's just the fabled slippery slope and all.

Stopping kids downloading the latest James Bond move is not keeping your citizens uneducated . Thats a silly teenagers argument. TPB isnt and educator.

Dont get me wrong. I know im looking like the defender of the 'system' but as ive cleary pointed out im nothing of the sort. I just will not accept this 'free for all' attitude because some day it turns round and bites you in the ass.
Its just utopian , unrealistic and juvenile.

Its illegal because it is wrong not simply because the law states so. Ethically, morally and legall stealing in this manner is wrong. No-one is stealing bread to feed to hungry. They are nicking films and porn to wank to. Theres no noble purpose here.

Im forever reading this moralistic rubbish that somehow it redressing the balance. It isnt. What about the argument that piracy drives up prices. Its a bit rich to hear sometimes but there has to be some truth to it.

If music and films were really really cheap would people still steal them . Yes, they would because 'Free' is still cheaper than 'Cheap'.
Its not so much the bloggers and the casual music stealers that i have problem with its the hoarders. We all know them. The guy that has 1,000,000 tracks and 10,000 movies who lets face it very often sells them on. There are millions of these people.

Where does it all stop. Im sure we all get fucking steaming mad when we get hacked. I got my credit card skimmed a few weeks back.
Theres always some fucker waiting to scam you whether your Sony or Me.

@DvlsAdvct , i wasnt refering to you dude. Just in general.

They are more left than right so nazi would be a little bit of a stretch? But then again the founder of IKEA supported nazis when he was young .

    EDIT:

Gonna go out drinking, just on a final note. That Bert Karlsson in the youtube video, never trust anything of what he says he is a nut and a lunatic.

No no , Carl Lundström is a funder of the Swedish far-right political party Sweden Democrats.
This is NOT left wing trust me.

Yes i know about the Ikea guy and Walt Disney had Nazi connections, all irrelevant.

The Pirate Bay is funded by Right Wing Fascists , period.
Right wing is not to be confused with Left Wing.
