    I used both at a gig recently. The Thump speakers are insane, the Harbingers don't hold a candle to em. The Harbingers sounded like mid/high speakers. The Thumps sound like a subwoofer is in the room. Definitely go with the 15" ones, you'd be surprised when it comes to the Mackies. Generically though, speaker size is secondary to speaker quality. Some 10" speakers will out-perform 12" speakers.

    Were you getting the 18" sub regardless? Or only if you got the Harbingers?

    Well if you got the budget, the Thumps with the Harbinger sub would give you a very nice sounding system. You'll definitely notice the lack of low end in the Harbinger mains, maybe not so much with the Thumps if all you're planning on doing is house parties or the like with them. The Thumps will give you bass, but not the bass you get with a subwoofer.

    Yes, always use a sub.
