JBoerlage has actually made a plugin that can do that... he has a vci-400 so made vdj bypass the velocity pads and send it's midi to a hardware synth instead.... so it could be done

Personally I couldn't be bothered to download a song off the internet during a gig but I rarely do the kind of gigs you're talking about - I could see where it would definitely be useful if "I don't have that song" isn't an acceptable response.

This happens all the time. Someone asks for some song I don't have and then says "but you could go online and download it right now"
My response is always the same. The internet takes up a lot of resources, the music playing would skip, I don't know if there's even wifi in here anyway and even if I could, would you pay for it? They walk away after that.
