    Default tips for beatmatching quickly

    Hey all,

I've recently taught myself to beat-match and I'm looking to improve or get quicker. Got any tips your willing to share? or is it just (as my little brother, who is a vinyl D'n'B DJ, told me ) practise, practise, practise.

Practice practice practice! Is definitely the way.

You could also drop it on the beat, then just ride the pitch until you lock it in.

Practice a lot and learn to ride the pitch.

Only takes a few seconds once you get used to it.

I concour... do it lots and you will get faster, but don't push it... one day it will just happen and your no longer beatmatching songs you mixing music, and the beats seem to sort themselves out as you just do it automatically and you will wonder why it was even hard at the start.

...also i'm not a fan of just riding the pitch, on TT's I prefer to nudge the platter in close while adjusting the pitch to suit, then once its good only use the pitch fader to get it perfect.

having a decent knowledge of your tracks (ie their bpms)will speed up the process.

but really the only thing for it is practice

PRACTICE!!! It's really the only way. Keep practicing and eventually you won't even think about doing it. You'll just throw on a track and within seconds you'll have it at the right pitch.

It's like trying to riding a bike, using chopsticks, or doing a hadouken. You'll do it so many times that it just turns into something that happens whenenever you need it to happen. Keep at it!

I adopted sort of a bastard child technique a few years ago...I nudge the platter while riding the pitch at the same time. Gets you there real quick once you get used to it.
