    Default HighTopFade's Setup

After 18 years of not owning a pair of Technics and a Japanese made Numark, I got back into the hobby late 2009. Fearing unemployment, I knew staying home and playing music is a lot cheaper than all my other extracurricular activities. Also, learning of the existence of Serato Scratch Live makes having music more affordable. Here is my setup back in January 2010.

    Technics SL-1200GLD #s 269 and 589
    Numark PPD DM-1975
    Lenovo Netbook 12.1"
    Rane Serato SL-1
    Ortofon OM QBert
Realistic Nova 40 Headphone (Vintage modded)
    Klipsch Promedia Computer Speakers
    Marathon MA-LT Laptop Stand

Mixer needed an upgrade. MP3 files are all over the place in terms of volume. Need a mixer with PFL. I ran into a few bucks. Replaced my Netbook, headphones, and added a Serato Controller. Added/Changed April 2010

    Denon DN-X120
    Denon HC-1000s
    2009 Apple Macbook Pro 2.53Ghz
    Sennheiser HD-280

After a short while, I realized I mixed more efficiently on a vintage Numark DM-1650 mixer. Why? Sliding Cue Pan. My Klipsch Promedia speakers died, and needed my Macbook for real work. Added/Changed May 2010

    2009 Apple MacMini Server
    Rane TTM-56
    Behringer B3031A
    AdLib Speaker Stands
    eBay Monitor Stand/Mount

I then got sucked into the idea of using Serato Bridge to make MixTapes. Ah hell, may as well record my faders and upgrade my mixer. Added November 2010

I wanted silver turntables like back in the day. But really wanted to preserve my limited 1200s and hoard a little with Technics 1200 being discontinued. Added December 2010

Hoarding Technics. Excellent Serato Controller. Added March 2011

    Technics SL-DZ1200
eBay Headshells (old school Stanton OEM)

The plot thickens. I ran out of space and left my DZ1200/SL1 setup in my son's bedroom. He became good at mixing and learned how to scratch. His Netbook couldn't run Serato. Back to my old 1200s and Macbook Pro. July 2011

Around November 2011, one my Behringer Studio monitors stopped powering on. Being a little upset, I replaced the single monitor with a different brand replacement. Not much until this month. I got a new laptop while passing down my old one to my son. My new replacement kinda blows. It doesn't support Line Level Audio Input without an adapter. I put in my old desktop just to record.

    2012 Apple Macbook Pro 13" 2.9Ghz
    2009 Apple MacMini Server
    Dell 20" Monitor
    Mackie MR8MK2 Studio Monitor

My next purchase will probably be a new Behringer B3031A with extended warranty. That will probably be it.

A little update. Removed the Mac Mini. Replaced the Mackie MR8MK2 Studio Monitor with a matching Behringer B3031A. Matching studio monitors makes the setup much easier to look at. My workaround to get my 2012 13" Macbook Pro to record in stereo was to add a Behringer FCA202 Firewire Audio Interface. Works pretty good and major plus it's powered by Firewire. Added a BBE 882i Sonic Maximizer. It works well with my studio monitors. My son uses it on mobile gigs with his Mackie TH-15a powered speakers. Sounds much better.
