You will need a midi to usb lead & midi ports on your computer, if you've got them that is how it works.

You can use wireless midi but you get a bit more latency

I do this with a usb to midi cable connected to an Audio 10 as the midi interface.

Using the MIDI-To-USB cable works fine, but I found it was too many wires for me (plus I was buying $2 cables off eBay that constantly broke) and you can't charge your iPad. I decided that for myself the best option was just to use midi over wifi. You can do this with a Mac or PC, but its a lot easier with a mac as CoreMIDI is built in. On a PC you should visit http://www.tobias-erichsen.de/software/rtpmidi.html for help on setting up network MIDI.

Anyways all you need to do is set the iPad up to broadcast CoreMIDI messages and then set up an adhoc network on your computer in order to get the lowest latency possible. I've found that this gives me an even lower latency than the set up I was using before, but if you have a quality setup then the USB may be better.
