    Seriously, pretty much any surround sound card with 5.1 outputs will do. I use my soundblaster now as a backup device, but before that, had a bog standard budget, unbranded 5.1 card.

    Remember that you need at least 2 stereo outputs, so a 'virtual' surround card usually won't work.

    Also, any soundcard that has a headphone output, usually shares its output with channels 1 & 2 (usually marked front), so that still only counts as one output, not two.
